We seek a highly-motivated Scientific Associate who enjoys working in a collaborative research laboratory to join the Adaptive Immunity group within the Immunology Disease Area of Novartis Biomedical Research in Basel, Switzerland. The Adaptive Immunity group integrates fundamental and translational research to identify/validate new targets and develop novel drugs to modulate dysregulation of B and T lymphocytes across different immunological diseases (e.g. systemic Lupus erythematodes, Sjögren’s disease, rheumatoid arthritis). In this team you will be able to generate novel data that advances the understanding of biology and diseases pathophysiology to enable the development of innovative drugs and elucidate their mechanism of action at the molecular and cellular level.

About the Role

Key Responsibilities:

  • Independently conceive and execute mainly cell-based in vitro functional experiments to support target validation, mechanism-of-action studies and drug discovery projects.
  • Develop new methods and techniques with focus on details and creative problem-solving capabilities, bringing ideas from a concept, hypothesis or question to a decision in experimental design.
  • Analysis of data generated using computational tools and presentation of results in lab and department meetings

Minimum requirements:

  • High degree of motivation and scientific curiosity paired with a diligent work attitude, flexibility and willingness to learn.
  • Good communication skills and ability to work collaboratively and effectively across teams in a well-organized, dedicated and efficient manner
  • BSc/MSc (or equivalent qualification) in biological sciences with good understanding of immunology, as well as cellular and molecular biology
  • Fluency in English

Desired skills:

  • Sound knowledge of cell isolation and culture techniques, as well as multicolor flow cytometry and data analysis is highly desired.
  • Knowledge of molecular biology methods (e.g. transcriptomics, ELISA, gene-editing and viral transductions) are viewed as a plus.
  • Skills in immunocytochemistry, confocal microscopy and/or bioinformatic analysis of high-dimensional data (e.g. transcriptomic, spectral flow) including coding skills are not absolutely required, but would be very welcome.
  • For experienced research associates: willingness to mentor junior lab members (e.g. master students) as well as proven ability to support multiple activities in parallel is viewed as plus.

*Restrictions on flexible working and reduced working time may apply and can be discussed at interview stage if required
