About the Role
Our work includes identifying new, biologically active natural products from microorganisms and optimizing producer strains through genetic and physiological strategies, combined with process development in our mid-scale fermentation plant.
As an intern in our dynamic and multidisciplinary microbial engineering team, you will embark on a 6-month journey to evaluate and implement cutting-edge technologies and processes for strain cultivation and genetic engineering, aimed at enhancing compound production.

Duration: 3-6 month
Location: Campus Basel
Your responsibilities:
- Perform standard and advanced cloning methods (Gibson assembly, recombination, CRISPR)
- Transform various microbial hosts
- Extract high-quality DNA for whole-genome sequencing
- Optimize cultivation conditions
- Evaluate data, generate reports, and contribute to the design and optimization of experiments
What you’ll bring to the role:
- Recent Bachelor or Master graduate in a biology-relevant field (graduation no longer than one year ago)
- English, German/French is a plus
- Demonstrated expertise in microbiology, molecular biology, and biochemistry
- Experience and enthusiasm for developing and refining experimental methods
- Strong team player with a collaborative and proactive approach
- Experience in integrating wet lab data into databases to interpret results and plan future experiments (e.g. genome mining, cultivation optimization
