As Scientific Lead for CRM (Cardio-Renal-Metabolic), you will be part of the Science Delivery team reporting to the Head of Science Delivery. In this role, you will be the key scientific liaison, bridging the gap between analytics teams across the Research, Development and Commercial continuum. Your role is crucial as a bridge between these diverse stakeholder groups that facilitates the creation and progress of transformative projects involving multimodal data that will benefit multiple groups across Novartis.

As a leader within data42, you will be required to contribute to the re-building of the data42 team by being an enthusiastic, cooperative and collaborative team player as well as a mentor to junior members. data42 functions in the spirit of a start-up, and the scientific lead is required to be adaptable in balancing the strategic and detail-oriented perspectives needed to move a project forward.

About the Role

Purpose of the role

• Scientific liaison to CRM research, data science (e.g. TM, QSI, BMD) in research, to biostatisticians and clinicians in Development, DDCI, to RWD research groups and in some cases to late-stage medical teams e.g. early launch support teams in Medical Affairs, HEOR

• Work closely with stakeholders from early research and development data science teams to serve their translational research and clinical development needs with the right combination of data, platform / technical and data science capabilities from data42

• Maintain overview of all CRM related data assets and drive data roadmap in alignment with the focus disease areas and pipeline assets

• Lead the creation and stewardship of disease specific multi-modal data pools for focus diseases as mandated by the CRM research and development leadership

• If required, enabling successful data-based collaborations with external parties on data42

• Refinement of agreed data governance and technical implementation of such governance on the platform in form of investigation management for CRM assets

• Coach, supervise, review and provide relevant combination of guidance to data scientists in areas like personal development, clinical data / data quality, use case prioritization, project updates and read outs to a diverse set of audience

• Lead and manage agile teams with product managers, data engineers and CDISC standards experts, QA engineers and data scientists (internal and external)

What you’ll bring to the role:

- 10+ years of experience in biomedical discovery and drug development

- Solid scientific background, a depth and breadth of analyzing medical data

- 5+ years in the pharmaceutical, biotech or life science startup environment, with demonstrated ability to leverage multi-modal data and analytics for decision making

- Strong customer-focused approach and track record of working in complex matrix organizations.

- Proven experience in identifying key questions to address during discovery and development for which existing data can be leveraged.

- Track record of leading projects or teams at a strategic level involving multiple stakeholder groups

- If little CRM experience available, track record of rapidly upskilling in new areas to reach a high level of competence

- Experience with data science, demonstrating knowledge of Python, R, SQL, or related technologies important for answering scientific questions

Highly desirable experiences:

- In-depth scientific understanding of trends, challenges and developments in focus TA (CRM)

- Omics – previously worked with NGS, proteomics or other clinical data linked omics data with an ability to derive insights from it

- Clinical – knowledge of clinical trials, from protocols to outcomes including data standards e.g. CDISC SDTM, ADaM

- In-depth knowledge of data modalities and use of RWD data assets for exploratory research including for innovative design considerations e.g. external control arms typically used in CRM therapeutic area

- Proven track record in developing data, data science and AI/ML products to support drug discovery and development.

- Hands-on experience guiding drug programs through R&D process

- Experience and working knowledge of Palantir Foundry platform or similar data management platform

Novartis Compensation and Benefit Summary: The pay range for this position at commencement of employment is expected to be between $166,300 and $297,700 per year; however, while salary ranges are effective from 1/1/25 through 12/31/25, fluctuations in the job market may necessitate adjustments to pay ranges during this period. Further, final pay determinations will depend on various factors, including, but not limited to geographical location, experience level, knowledge, skills and abilities. The total compensation package for this position may also include other elements, including a sign-on bonus, restricted stock units, and discretionary awards in addition to a full range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits (including 401(k) eligibility and various paid time off benefits, such as vacation, sick time, and parental leave), dependent on the position offered. Details of participation in these benefit plans will be provided if an employee receives an offer of employment. If hired, employee will be in an “at-will position” and the Company reserves the right to modify base salary (as well as any other discretionary payment or compensation program) at any time, including for reasons related to individual performance, Company or individual department/team performance, and market factors.
