The Senior Manager, Public Affairs Governance will focus on ensuring robust governance oversight and compliance within Public Affairs activities globally. This role is responsible for identifying potential risks related to corporate governance and lobbying, providing guidance to internal stakeholders, and using predictive analytics to anticipate emerging trends. The role will also monitor regulatory developments impacting Environmental, Social, Governance (ESG) disclosures and political engagement reporting and translate the actionable next steps and delivery. The role requires strong analytical skills, scenario planning capabilities, and the ability to translate complex data into actionable strategies for senior leadership. This position plays a critical role in supporting high-level external engagements and ensuring alignment with Public Affairs’ strategic objectives.

About the Role

Your responsibilities include, but not limited to:

  • Monitor regulatory developments related to ESG disclosures and political engagement reporting, providing clear guidance and recommendations to Public Affairs on adjusting internal processes to meet evolving requirements
  • Design and implement data collection processes for tracking political engagement globally, using advanced analytics to identify trends, forecast risks, and recommend strategic interventions
  • Assess senior leadership engagements by collecting and evaluating relevant datapoints to generate insights that inform Public Affairs strategies and contribute to broader Corporate Affairs planning
  • Leverage predictive analytics strategies and tools e.g., dashboards, scenario analysis, risk profiling and risk monitoring to identify potential lobbying risks in key markets, enabling proactive risk management
  • Champion an effective political engagement governance by aligning lobbying frameworks with Novartis corporate standards, proactively addressing regulatory changes and integrating ESG principles
  • Advise internal teams on compliance requirements for political engagement and lobbying activities, guiding the effective use of tools like BeSure, fostering a culture of compliance and accountability
  • Collaborate closely with Corporate Affairs and Public Affairs teams (regional and policy) to ensure the integration of Public Affairs insights and recommendations into strategic decision-making
  • Engage in internal and external regulatory discussions to collect insights on industry corporate positioning on political engagement governance
  • Analyze and distill complex data into actionable insights for Public Affairs leadership, specifically focusing on trends in political engagement and their implications for policy development and advocacy efforts
  • Support high-level, above-country engagements by tracking and assessing political engagement opportunities, monitoring requests received, and evaluating participation in key international fora to ensure alignment with broader Corporate Affairs priorities.

What you'll bring to the role:

  • Bachelor’s degree, advanced degree preferred
  • Proficiency in English required, excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Demonstrated experience in public affairs, political engagement governance, commercial operations, and/or related fields. 
  • Public Affairs or related fields experience, preferably in the healthcare or pharmaceutical industry.
  • Proven track record of success in governance oversight, compliance management with a focus on political engagement activities.
  • Experience working in a global organization and collaborating with cross-functional teams to achieve common goals.
  • Knowledge of regulatory landscape and industry best practices related to political engagement, including lobbying, advocacy, and corporate governance (e.g. OECD Principles, Corporate Sustainability Reporting Directive (CSRD), FCPA).
  • Ability to effectively operate and implement in a matrix organization, with and without direct supervisory control.
  • Experience with data analytics tools and techniques, with the ability to translate complex data into actionable insights and recommendations
