Summary
Contribute to the GDC mission to discover innovative medicines
Key responsibilities
• Independently plan and conduct experiments (e.g. multistep chemical syntheses, analytics, purification), according to a general outline provided by the supervisor
• Perform multiple reactions or experiments in a parallel fashion (e.g. working on preparation, analysis or separation of more than one compound in parallel)
• Independent purification of products including the selection of appropriate methods and conditions
• Independently determine the outcome of reactions or experiments, and make operational decisions in multi-step synthesis or complicated analyses (including deciding structure of products and whether to proceed)
• Utilize a range of data sources (for example databases or institutional knowledge) to implement alternative reaction conditions and propose alternative synthesis to target molecules or to vary experimental methods/conditions and propose alternative approaches
About the Role
Major accountabilities:
Knowledge requirements (scientific-academic-competencies)
- Theoretical knowledge in chemistry and/or technology and demonstrated ability to apply knowledge in pharmaceutical research
- Practical experience (e.g. in the synthesis of a wide range of compound classes, practical techniques, method development, automation, purification techniques) Collaboration, connectivity and organizational know-how
- Participation at relevant chemistry meetings of the project, including short oral presentations
- Interaction with supervisor, project leaders team members and unit members • Collaboration with people outside of their direct working group (i.e. biologists, analysts, and experts)
- Understanding of other functions within GDC and project stakeholders
- Direct or informal guidance of students and apprentices in their day-to-day laboratory work Scope for action and decision-making
- Demonstrate the ability to independently determine outcome of reactions or experiments, and make operational decisions in multi-step synthesis or complex experimental tasks
