Summary

About the Role:

We are seeking a motivated scientist to contribute to our mission to deliver transformative new therapies for patients with fibrotic disorders. In this position, you will contribute to research programs delineating key mechanisms involved in fibrotic disease development and progression, playing a crucial role in progressing new targets toward drug discovery through the independent development and execution of novel cell-based systems in order to improve patient outcomes.

Key responsibilities:

  • Independently design, develop, execute experiments generating high-quality data and results to enable decision-making for projects in the DAx portfolio.

  • Evaluate results and interpret data from different sources, draw relevant conclusions, document, and present data in line with project needs and timelines.

  • Establish, optimize, and validate novel in vitro models, assays, and readouts for fibrotic disorders.

  • Set a strong example of leadership from the bench by actively collaborating with other associates, sharing knowledge and expertise, and mentoring junior lab members in scientific and technical capabilities.

  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams within DAx and across Biomedical Research.

Essential requirements:

  • BS or MS in cell biology, molecular biology, immunology, or other life science field with a minimum of 4 years of related post-graduate laboratory experience in an academic or industrial drug discovery setting.

  • Background and proficiency in primary cell culture and cell-based assay development.

  • Experience in a broad range of molecular biology techniques including qPCR, Western Blot, ELISA, microscopy, and flow cytometry.

  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and as part of a collaborative, interdisciplinary team of biologists, computational scientists, and translational research/medical scientists.

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, organizational skills, and excellent attention to detail.

Desirable Requirements:

  • Experience in cell-based and biochemical assay development (scaling, high throughput screening, etc.) in an industrial setting.

  • Experience in co-culture (or complex cellular) models, organ-on-chip technologies, and/or ex vivo systems to model fibrosis.

Novartis Compensation and Benefit Summary: The pay range for this position at commencement of employment is expected to be between $92,800 to $153,600/year; however, while salary ranges are effective from 1/1/24 through 12/31/24, fluctuations in the job market may necessitate adjustments to pay ranges during this period. Further, final pay determinations will depend on various factors, including, but not limited to geographical location, experience level, knowledge, skills, and abilities. The total compensation package for this position may also include other elements, including a sign-on bonus, restricted stock units, and discretionary awards in addition to a full range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits (including 401(k) eligibility and various paid time off benefits, such as vacation, sick time, and parental leave), dependent on the position offered. Details of participation in these benefit plans will be provided if an employee receives an offer of employment. If hired, employee will be in an “at-will position” and the Company reserves the right to modify base salary (as well as any other discretionary payment or compensation program) at any time, including for reasons related to individual performance, Company or individual department/team performance, and market factors.
