About the Role
New modalities and especially oligonucleotides play an increasing role in the Novartis project pipeline and thus call for the development and implementation of novel analytical methods, as well as cutting-edge data analysis workflows.
We are looking for a highly motivated Postgraduate candidate with a strong background and experience in Analytical Chemistry. It is a unique opportunity to shape the applied analytical science of Oligonucleotides at Novartis. In parallel, you as a Postgraduate will receive a comprehensive overview of drug development at Novartis and shape your network for the next career step. State-of the art equipment and science paired with a highly dynamic, multicultural and committed team of scientists is granted.

The position is located at the Novartis Headquarter site in Basel within the Analytical R&D (ARD), which is a line function of the Technical R&D department of Global Drug Development. ARD plays a crucial role in the characterization and analysis of Drug Substances and Drug Products from the time they leave the discovery laboratory until they are transferred to Commercial Production.

Your responsibilities
- Building an analytical platform for investigating oligonucleotides based on chromatographic and mass spectrometry technologies.
- Assessing new technologies together with our highly engaged lab workforce, thus driving the innovation ecosystem of Novartis.
- Designing, performing, interpreting experiments and regular aligning with our experts in the field of oligonucleotides.
- Contribute to increase product understanding of oligonucleotides and consequently accelerate product development timelines.
- Be an accountable contributor to build the analytical strategy for oligonucleotides.
- Be a strong communicator and role-model in collaboration.
What you bring to the role
- You hold a Master’s degree in analytical chemistry or related discipline with interest and experience in chromatography, mass spectrometry and oligonucleotide characterization.
- You bring along strong analytical knowledge and oligonucleotide understanding. Experiences with IP-RP-HPLC, IEX-HPLC, LC-MS, LC-MS/MS, HR-MS, 2D-UV-LC(MS), HILIC, SEC, CGE and UV-spectroscopy is regarded as an asset.
- An excellent track record of original research and extensive experience of analytical sciences using “state of the art” technologies demonstrates your strong background in the above-mentioned fields.
- While you are a strong team player and role-model in collaboration, the ability to work independently will be valued.
- Hands-on experience and motivation to work in a laboratory environment are required.
- You have a creative mindset, showcasing agility, constantly eager to expand your knowledge and establish new techniques.
- A track record on strong interpersonal and communication skills are regarded as the basis.
