About the Role

Your Key Responsibilities:

  • Support Neuroscience discovery programs based on high-quality experimental data that incorporates approaches addressing the relationship between lipid signaling, synaptic function and neuronal-glia crosstalk in Neurodegeneration.
  • Formulate and/or leads novel projects with multidisciplinary teams, and/or enables matrix collaboration on projects/technologies to achieve creative results for impact on Neuroscience goals.
  • Be adept at executing experiments in the lab and intellectually driving projects forward.
  • Develop and implement assays to assess synaptic structure, function and/or plasticity in disease models.
  • Evaluate the impact of therapeutic candidates in neural/synaptic/circuit function.
  • Play a role in identifying tractable therapeutic targets and initiating exploratory efforts to modulate them.
  • Provide expert input into understanding the genetics and biology of neurodegenerative disorders.
  • Establish priorities and target dates to enable data-driven advancements in portfolio and/or platform projects.
  • Manage, mentor, train and empower associates to ensure technical growth, development, compliant data documentation, and high impact deliverables.

What You’ll Bring to the Role:

  • MS in Neuroscience or closely related filed with 10+ years of relevant pharmaceutical/biotech experience
  • Expertise in lipid biology and neuro-glia interactions via lipid signaling
  • Hands-on expertise in complex in vitro / ex vivo / in vivo model systems and circuit level analysis that leverages electrophysiological, cell biological, molecular and/or anatomical approaches.
  • Deep biological knowledge of neurodegeneration and/or neurogenetic disorders, including mechanisms of disease progression and core drivers of disease.
  • Ability to communicate effectively and present complex and/or new ideas with clarity and simplicity.
  • A team-first and portfolio mindset are qualities that we strongly seek and value.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • PhD in Neuroscience or related field and 5+ years of pharm/biotech experience
  • Aptitude to work in a matrix structure and demonstrable experience collaborating / managing multidisciplinary teams directly and/or by influence.

Novartis Compensation and Benefit Summary: The pay range for this position at commencement of employment is expected to be between $124,000 - $186,000/year; however, while salary ranges are effective from 1/1/24 through 12/31/24, fluctuations in the job market may necessitate adjustments to pay ranges during this period. Further, final pay determinations will depend on various factors, including, but not limited to geographical location, experience level, knowledge, skills, and abilities. The total compensation package for this position may also include other elements, including a sign-on bonus, restricted stock units, and discretionary awards in addition to a full range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits (including 401(k) eligibility and various paid time off benefits, such as vacation, sick time, and parental leave), dependent on the position offered. Details of participation in these benefit plans will be provided if an employee receives an offer of employment. If hired, employee will be in an “at-will position” and the Company reserves the right to modify base salary (as well as any other discretionary payment or compensation program) at any time, including for reasons related to individual performance, Company or individual department/team performance, and market factors.
