Spinal Muscular Atrophy (SMA) is a rare, genetic neuromuscular condition that has a devastating impact on the individuals and families affected.1 Early detection of the disease is critical to offering babies specialist treatment that could transform their and their families’ lives.2
Despite this, SMA is currently not included in the NHS newborn bloodspot programme.3
