About the Role

Your responsibilities include, but are not limited to:


• Plan, design, monitor, and report in vivo ADME, pharmacokinetic (PK) and PK/PD studies in rodents and non-rodents, in order to support preclinical projects across Novartis Biomedical Research portfolio. 
• Discuss study rational, and manage timelines, and resources. Evaluate and interpret results, draw relevant conclusions, write or review reports. Ensures accuracy of study data within corporate databases and project tracking tools. Communicate study results and data interpretations to cross-functional project teams.
• When these studies are outsourced at External Service Providers (ESP), drive and monitor study preparations, execution and reporting in collaboration with ESPs. 
• Independently recognize challenges and hurdles (operational, technical, or scientific) and provide relevant input or proposal for solution/problem solving.
• Actively participate in PKS project sub-teams to define PK strategy for compound progression and development and contribute to relevant transition documents such as investigator brochures within agreed timelines and with all regulatory requirements.
• Be a pro-active, innovative, and solution-oriented team player, which actively contributes to development and refinements of new in vivo PK/ADME methods and technologies. Having scientific knowledge and expertise on new drug modalities and delivery technologies can be an advantage.
• Comply with Swiss and Novartis-specific rules and regulations, e.g., Animal Welfare regulations, 3R principles, Novartis quality standards.
• Overall, excellent collaboration, coordination and communication skills with other scientists within the team, within our matrix organization and with ESPs are mandatory. Fostering an atmosphere of mutual respect is key.
• Depending on the level of expertise, train and actively mentor junior members of team.

Role requirements: What you’ll bring to the role:
• Masters degree or PhD in biology or related sciences with 3-5 years of working experience, preferably in the area of DMPK in pharmaceutical, biotechnology industry, or ESPs.
• Good understanding of the pharmacokinetic science, the drug discovery and development phases, as well as a general awareness of the outsourcing operational excellence. 
• Good understanding and knowledge of in vivo techniques, instrumentation, and underlying principles within in vivo ADME/PK field.
• Experience in rodent experimentation and in large animal PK and PKPD studies are considered as beneficial (animal handling, drug application, sampling).
• Competency and interest in working with different IT systems and advanced computer literacy, on a daily basis (MS Office, Sharepoint, Phoenix WinNonlin, Internal databases, etc.).
• Curious mindset, with high interest to continuously learn, develop, implement and/or optimize new or existing experimental methods.
• Team player with excellent communication and a collaborative mindset. 
• Excellent oral and written communication skills in English is a must; some knowledge of German considered beneficial.
