Internal Title: Research Scientist I / II
About the Role:
Biomedical Research seeks a highly motivated Research Scientist to contribute to the Oncology Pharmacology department with formulation support and biomarker data generation. The candidate will prepare preclinical dosing formulations to assist discovery projects at our Cambridge, MA facility. This position offers a unique opportunity to understand how discovery candidates progress into in-vivo studies and how we characterize them using in-vitro biomarker assays.
About the Role
Key Responsibilities:
- Meet quality, quantity and timeline expectations for the preparation of formulations/buffers/vehicles to support in vivo studies
- Order/weigh/manage compound supply, formulation consumables inventory, and ship/receive materials between sites
- Provide routine lab support such as mobile phase preparation, pH meter calibration, and basic troubleshooting of lab equipment
- Document experiments thoroughly in lab notebook (including tables, graphs, etc.) and draft detailed formulation protocols for internal/external labs
- Optimize existing formulation workflow and develop more efficient ones
- Learn and conduct routine biomarker experiments, such as immuno-based assays (e.g., tumor lysate preparation, ELISA, MSD, capillary electrophoresis, Western analysis) and RT-PCR
- Work on assignments that are routine in nature, with some supervision for more detailed tasks and troubleshooting
- Timely completion of trainings
The pay range for this position at commencement of employment is expected to be between: $66,000 - $99,000 / year for Research Scientist I and $84,000 - $126,000 / year for Research Scientist II; however, while salary ranges are effective from 1/1/24 through 12/31/24, fluctuations in the job market may necessitate adjustments to pay ranges during this period. Further, final pay determinations will depend on various factors, including, but not limited to geographical location, experience level, knowledge, skills and abilities. The total compensation package for this position may also include other elements, including a sign-on bonus, restricted stock units, and discretionary awards in addition to a full range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits (including 401(k) eligibility and various paid time off benefits, such as vacation, sick time, and parental leave), dependent on the position offered. Details of participation in these benefit plans will be provided if an employee receives an offer of employment. If hired, employee will be in an “at-will position” and the Company reserves the right to modify base salary (as well as any other discretionary payment or compensation program) at any time, including for reasons related to individual performance, Company or individual department/team performance, and market factors.
Essential Requirements:
- This position will be located at the Cambridge, MA site and will not have the ability to be located remotely. This position will not require travel as defined by the business (domestic and/ or international). Please note that this role would not provide relocation, and only local candidates will be considered.
- This position is a 100% lab-based and requires flexibility with working hours to support early morning preparations as requested
- Bachelor’s degree in chemistry, biochemistry, biology or related discipline, with 1-2 years of industry research experience
- Demonstrated ability to work in a compounding formulation lab, along with basic competencies in chemistry
- Meticulous laboratory approach, careful adherence to protocol and excellent lab notebook documentation skills
- Demonstrated ability to collaborate and work with cross-functional teams and thrive in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment
- Excellent multi-tasking, analytical, critical problem solving, organizational and verbal/written communication abilities
- Successfully manage multiple parallel activities and deliver samples by requested timelines
- Awareness for safe handling of powders/chemicals, potentially dangerous materials and equipment
- Knowledge of MS Office suite/GraphPad PRISM, with a strong expertise in Excel
Desirable Requirements:
- Conducting lab assays for assessing proteins and/or mRNA (e.g., BCA, immunoassay-based formats (ELISA, MSD), Western blots and RT-PCR), a basic understanding of biology and a desire to learn and conduct biomarker assays
