As Director Process Analytical Sciences (PAS) you will lead the PAS organizations in Schaftenau and Kundl, Austria as part of Technical Research & Development (TRD) Biologics. Additionally, you will act as site head Analytical Development (AD) and will represent AD in the TRD Biologics site leadership team.
About the Role
RESPONSIBILITIES
Include but not limited to:
- Leads Process Analytical Sciences in Schaftenau and Kundl, Austria as part of TRD Biologics
- Act as site head Analytical Development (AD) and will represent AD in the TRD Biologics site leadership team.
- Acts as operational manager for multiple teams (more than 80 associates in total)
- Drives PAS Austria with a focus on state-of-the-art non-GMP (Good Manufacturing Practice) physico-chemical method development and testing in support of allocated pipeline and life-cycle management projects across new biological entities (NBEs) and Biosimilars, while ensuring best-in-class knowledge, skills and expertise
- Translates and executes the PAS strategic directions.
- Ensures timely and robust non-GMP physico-chemical analytical testing to support drug substance and drug product process development activities
- Ensures high quality transfer of analytical methods to Analytical Operations
- Ensures timely and high quality preparation of all relevant technical documents for health authority interactions (e.g. investigational new drug application (IND) / investigational medicinal product dossier (INDP), Biologics License Application (BLA) and acts as a role model for unbossed, curious and inspired leadership in Novartis
WHAT YOU’LL BRING TO THE ROLE:
- Ability to work and lead (a cross-functional team) in a matrix environment
- Influencing without authority
- Leading large and/or diverse multifunctional teams
- Sound technical & scientific knowledge of pharmaceutical/chemical/analytics/QC/equivalent
- Track record of attracting / developing and retain talent
Desirable requirements
- University degree (Master / PhD or equivalent) in life sciences
- Minimum of 10 years of relevant experience in the pharmaceutical industry.
- Minimum of 5 years in a leadership position with successful performance and track record of leading teams.

In accordance with Austrian law, we are obliged to disclose the minimum salary as stated in the collective bargaining agreement. For this position the minimum salary is €109,600/year (on a full-time basis). In most cases, the actual salary will be higher, as we strive to maintain a competitive position in the market and consider your previous experience, qualifications and individual competencies. We are open for part-time and job-sharing models and support flexible and remote working where possible.
