Summary

Provide strategic direction in line with the overall global and regional Value & Access strategy to achieve key priorities for the country. Effectively support introduction of new compounds rapidly into the market for the widest commercial indications, at a price reflecting the value of the new compound Working with regional office to close access gaps at Institutional, Government, and Patient level in the country Focus on developing an analytical approach and negotiation strategy support towards market opportunities, across Government & Private institutions Develop strategic & tactical plans to explore new access opportunities Anticipate the future trends in the market, developing an innovative response in order to build sustainable competitive advantage Work with stakeholders such as policy makers, managed care organizations, customers, patients, governments, etc., to make Novartis the most respected entity in the SA healthcare industry.

About the Role

Major accountabilities:

  • In partnership with Public Affairs, develop medium to long term policy positions that recognize the value of bio-pharmaceutical innovation and result in sustainable access to transformative therapies. Engage relevant stakeholders to implement access related policy and process improvements.
  • Understand and connect current market trends nationally and locally in terms of legislation, HC organization, funding systems, decision makers and decision- making processes and the relationship between political and operational system. Establish and maintain key internal/external partnerships with key clients by understanding their needs with regard to respective market place/issue.
  • Anticipate changes in the access/business environment and identify steps to proactively address issues and barriers that will restrict access to Novartis products.
  • Lead evaluation and approval of access and pricing-related business plans developed within the Novartis organization by making sure the strategies meet the access principles aligned with the business franchise priorities
  • Prioritize and execute V&A strategies, plans and mitigation plans in alignment with business strategies, integrating cross-functional contributions and stimuli
  • Conduct payer advisory boards and early direct payer engagement projects to gain high quality, innovative payer insights that drive competitive advantage as well as patient benefit.
  • Identify distinct payer and influencer segments and translate product evidence into tailored value propositions and message flow per payer segment considering legal and regulatory constraints.
  • Designing and implementing overall Value & Access strategy in line with regional guideline and country’s targets, and provide active support to other functions on all Value & Access matters
  • Identify access gaps for current and pre- launch products (reimbursement limitations, government budget allocation, major Health Care institution priorities, etc...) and explore priorities/ solutions and implement Value & Access plan
  • Implement innovative approaches to the integration of clinical, medical, regulatory, and commercial inputs across all stakeholders.
  • Constantly monitor environmental changes in healthcare sector to capture and anticipate different scenario evolutions and transform into proactive actions.
  • Develop strong relationships with key stakeholders (Government, Institutional Authorities, KEE’s and physicians, distribution chain, administrators, Pharmacists and Patient associations)
  • Reporting of technical complaints / adverse events / special case scenarios related to Novartis products within 24 hours of receipt.
  • Work within any given legal framework, Novartis Ethics, Risk and Compliance policies and ensure those around him/her do the same.
  • Develop and update market access strategies for new launches and in-market brands aligned with evolving market needs.
  • Establishes and maintains relationships with key economic modelling, HTA, outcomes research and access evidence agencies, leaders & key stakeholders both outside and inside the company and contributes to shaping the field on behalf of Novartis.
  • May be assigned to take care of projects from time to time and as needed by the organization.

Minimum Requirements:

Education & Qualifications:

  • University degree: Life sciences / Health Economics / Health Management

Advance Education (preferred):

  • Advance Degree in Health (e.g. Master’s)

Work Experience:

At least 5 years in pharma / healthcare environment, ideally in the following areas:

  • Commercial (Sales, Marketing or Market Access) – key to the role
  • Project management and implementation
  • Government and private negotiations
  • Exposure to registration process & reimbursement dossier compilation
  • Public relations / Government affairs/ Managed Care (optional)

Advanced knowledge of pricing and reimbursement environment within the Cluster Developing health economic models and conducting evidence generation projects to support HTAs

Excellent knowledge of managed care, managed care decision-making and the healthcare environment

Proven deep understanding of HEOR research concepts and methodologies
