Summary

Location: Cambridge You will be supporting drug discovery for obesity, atherosclerosis and heart failure therapeutics across all drug modalities, while broadening your knowledge in the field. As an experienced and skilled large animal pharmacologist, you will work transparently and collaboratively with project teams to design and execute experiments in large animal models. These include pharmacokinetic (PK), pharmacodynamic (PD) and target engagement (TE) studies intended to answer key scientific questions that will facilitate go/no-go decisions for project teams. You will work closely with both internal and external partners to collect, analyze, and interpret data, and then report findings in written study reports and in team meetings. About the Role

Your Key Responsibilities:

  • Working with the CRO team to generate large animal models of cardiac and/or metabolic dysfunction to support PK, PD and TE studies.
  • Conduct hemodynamic assessments (surgically implanted telemetry).
  • Function as the lead in vivo pharmacologist on drug discovery projects as appropriate.
  • Support drug discovery campaigns by conducting PK/PD and efficacy studies.
  • Present results in lab and department meetings.
  • Assist in the completion of research reports to support regulatory filings.
  • Work with veterinary team to ensure maintenance of best practices in areas of animal welfare and husbandry while upholding the highest standard of study integrity.

Role Requirements:

• Master's Degree plus 3 years of experience or recently completed PhD in life sciences preferred

• Experience in generating and studying large animal models of cardiac and metabolic dysfunction, specifically focusing on nonhuman primates (NHPs) and their utilization in drug discovery.
• Experience in rodent models of cardiac and metabolic dysfunction is a plus but not required.
• Proven expertise in experimental design and execution.
• Experience in working with a multidisciplinary team of scientists.
• Basic knowledge of statistics and experience with common statistical software for biomedical research.
• Strong written, oral and record keeping skills.

• Willingness to travel to the CRO where the NHPs are housed, and studies are performed (<10%).

Novartis Compensation and Benefit Summary: The pay range for this position at commencement of employment is expected to be between $112,800- $169,200/year; however, while salary ranges are effective from 1/1/24 through 12/31/24, fluctuations in the job market may necessitate adjustments to pay ranges during this period.  Further, final pay determinations will depend on various factors, including, but not limited to geographical location, experience level, knowledge, skills, and abilities. The total compensation package for this position may also include other elements, including a sign-on bonus, restricted stock units, and discretionary awards in addition to a full range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits (including 401(k) eligibility and various paid time off benefits, such as vacation, sick time, and parental leave), dependent on the position offered. Details of participation in these benefit plans will be provided if an employee receives an offer of employment. If hired, employee will be in an “at-will position” and the Company reserves the right to modify base salary (as well as any other discretionary payment or compensation program) at any time, including for reasons related to individual performance, Company or individual department/team performance, and market factors.
