Summary

We seek a Senior Scientist with in-depth expertise in Liquid Chromatography-Mass Spectrometry to join the Immunology Department within Novartis Biomedical Research in Basel, Switzerland. You will generate novel data that increases our biological understanding of emerging immunology targets and elucidate the mechanism of action at the molecular, cellular and more complex ex vivo level. You will be responsible to plan, execute and document experiments independently and to efficiently manage and maintain a functional laboratory, technical equipment and tools, as required for best practice and in-line with Health Safety and Environment guidelines.

About the Role

Key Responsibilities:

  • Plan and perform mass spectrometry-based assays to support target validation, mechanism-of-action, and drug discovery projects
  • Maintenance and troubleshooting of liquid chromatography-mass spectrometry (LC-MS) systems
  • Prepare samples (pre-clinical and clinical) from a variety of different biological matrices (cells, biofluids, and tissues) for quantitative LC-MS of drug candidates, small molecules and proteins
  • Develop and implement LC-MS analysis workflows, including both sample preparation and targeted MS methodology
  • Analyze data and present results to the lab and to project teams
  • Accountable for increasingly complex experiments

Minimum requirements:

  • BSc/MSc in natural science - analytical chemistry, biochemistry, biological sciences, or related fields with relevant initial professional experience or an equivalent education with several years of professional experience in LC-MS (hands-on mass spectrometry experience is a must)
  • Sound knowledge of LC-MS, e.g. triple quadrupole instrumentation
  • Knowledge of a variety of sample preparation techniques of biological matrices (e.g. liquid liquid extraction, solid phase extraction, proteomics sample preparation, metabolite extraction)
  • Demonstrates flexibility and willingness to learn new skills and core competences in mass spectrometry
  • Self-motivated and an excellent team player, who demonstrates good communication skills and creative problem-solving capabilities, and enjoys working in a collaborative team-oriented environment
  • Well-organized, show initiative, positive attitude, commitment, and flexibility
  • Computational data analysis skills (coding is a plus)
