Summary

About the role:
Act as a strong pillar of tax team for business partnering and ensure effective connects with external stakeholders like auditors, policy makers and tax authorities.

This role will report to Country Head of Tax (India) and will be responsible for tax for both Novartis entities in India.

About the Role

Key Requirements:

  • Playing a key role in tax compliances (advance tax, return of income, statutory closing, Tax Audit, etc), tax reporting (Statutory and MIS), etc) and tax litigation matters (including playing a lead role is briefing & engaging with External Counsels)
  • Proactive tax risk management for Novartis India entities, including managing tax assessments/ transfer pricing audit and responses to other on-going tax proceedings/ show cause notices
  • Support in India tax/ profitability planning and financial analysis to support for MIS and statutory reporting
  • Provide support on APA, NOCC monitoring and operational transfer pricing (where required)
  • Support Country tax head on advisory on various tax matters – such as P&O issues, internal business developments/ deals/ re-structuring, on need basis
  • Provide support to Global and India M&A on need-based/ strategic projects. Monitor national and international tax environment and ensure compliance with local tax law in alignment with internal stakeholders
  • Monitor changes to Pharma policy environment in India and analyzing impact & suggesting action required in alignment with internal stakeholder. Undertake measures to minimize uncertain tax positions/ tax leakages
  • Maintain a good working relationship with tax authorities, internal stakeholders (among others – Finance, FRA, Legal, Treasury, business teams, etc) and other external stakeholders
  • Develop capabilities within team, provide growth opportunities and foster teamwork
  • Enable transparent knowledge exchange between all India Tax team members and between India and global tax teams, respectively. Play an active role in tax knowledge sessions, including sessions with Group tax

Essential requirements

  • Excellent knowledge and solid experience of local corporation tax, international tax & transfer pricing
  • Strong technical acumen and tax operational experience
  • Experience with handling litigation
  • Effective project/ stakeholder/ team management skills

Desirable Requirements:

  • Chartered Accountant with experience in Corporate tax & international tax (including Transfer pricing)
  • 10-14 years relevant work experience in Industry (Pharma/ FMCG preferable) or Consultancy firms, as a Senior Manager
  • Inbound experience and M&A tax experience will be a plus
