Summary

Project leader/scientific expert to lead drug discovery efforts from target identification through to the clinic of pharmacological interventions modulating neuroinflammatory/neurodegenerative processes involved in brain diseases.
Initiates and lead cross-functional collaborations and projects in the neuroimmunology field with a focus on Alzheimer's disease and Multiple Sclerosis.
Identifies, validates and develops technologies in the field of targeted delivery of large molecular drugs to the central nervous system.
Identifies and validates molecular targets that play a key role in a particular disease process. Studies origin, relationship, development, anatomy, functions, and chemical processes of living organisms.
Requires an understanding of one or more of the following: molecular biology, biochemistry, cell biology, neuroimmunology.
May develop an assay which employs in-vitro and/or in-vivo biological and immunological systems.
May experiment with animals and tissue to determine the effect of new drug compound entities utilizing in-vivo, in-vitro and ex-vivo models on cells, tissues and whole animal systems.
-Associate Director levels: Provides strategic and broad team leadership on drug discovery and/or early development projects and initiatives throughout the lifecycle, and/or leads broad technology development areas within department and Division. Widely recognized as a strong team leader and/or a deep expert in her/his area; assesses impact, limitations, and added value of scientific activities in order to define team's strategic objectives, advance related projects, and/or significantly expand scientific/technical knowledge within one or several related areas of deep expertise and relevance to Division.

Major accountabilities

  • Associate Director levels: Defines team goals, aligns and provides input to department strategy or provides matrix leadership input on team goals and department strategy.
  • Successfully operationalizes in key scientific/technical/development areas to advance department and Division goals.
  • Leads and enables team to conduct novel activities or provides deep scientific/technical expertise leading to fundamental scientific/technical insights ; integrating information and knowledge across projects and disciplines.
  • Champions and advances new science relevant for project/department goals.
  • Assumes responsibility for project or initiative results and directly leads a team of varying levels or leads a matrix team across broader department.
  • Builds a clear connection to department goals; uses strong coaching skills and balances direct and indirect leadership or applies coaching skills to share domain knowledge.
  • Finds opportunities to delegate and empowers others; has strong self‐awareness.
  • Fosters ideation, encourages and supports idea development in broad team or functional community.
  • Drives talent development priorities within own team or acts as a senior mentor to key talent within area of expertise.
  • Generates innovative strategy input and project concepts across multiple scientific/technical/development domains.
  • Develops and leads innovative interdisciplinary teams, and/or leads through the matrix in projects and initiatives using a well‐developed internal and external scientific network.
  • Conducts long‐ and mid‐ term planning to identify specific, measurable anticipated impact of team objectives or functional community deliverables to Division pipeline and adapts plans based on strategic changes, external forces, and own insights.
  • Directly leads a diverse team, including setting achievable, developmental objectives, or builds matrix team objectives and integrates work across multiple labs.

Essential Requirements:  

  • PhD degree in neuroimmunology
  • Post Doc in experimental immunology/neuroimmunology
  • Significant project and group leadership experience and a track-record of impact on multiple projects. A mind-set of curiosity and openness to diverse thinking, with an enthusiasm to develop yourself and others 
  • Excellent written and verbal communication and strong influencing skills, with an ability to present and discuss project strategies and challenges 
  • Strong interest in novel technologies and science trends, such as data science and automation/miniaturization, and their application to drug discovery.
  • Aptitude to work in a fast-paced team-oriented environment, demonstrating collaborative nature and ability to influence in a matrix organization
