Summary

Location: Basel, Switzerland Full time, onsite, #LI-onsite BioMedical Research (BR) is the innovation engine of Novartis, focusing on powerful new technologies that have the potential to help produce therapeutic breakthroughs for patients. The Biologics Research Center (BRC) is seeking a passionate, creative PhD level scientist to complement our Physicochemical Analysis team in Basel. You will work highly collaboratively in a multidisciplinary environment at the interface between research and development to evaluate, implement and apply state of art characterization workflows on novel Biologics molecules which are discovered and developed in our department for high unmet medical needs.

About the Role

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Development, implementation, and supervision of physico-chemical analysis aimed at characterizing recombinant proteins. This entails the utilization of cutting-edge techniques such as mass photometry, dynamic light scattering, size exclusion chromatography, capillary electrophoresis, and other advanced technologies.

  • Contribute to development of in silico methods for predicting protein aggregation.

  • Contribute experimentally and intellectually to the advancement of biologics projects in multidisciplinary and collaborative teams.

  • Manage laboratory associates.

  • Generate innovative ideas/solutions to address scientific challenges.

  • Prepare and communicate results at internal and external meetings, as well as in scientific publications if appropriate. 

Minimum requirements: What you will bring to the role:

  • Degree in organic/analytical/biochemistry (PhD or equivalent) with at least 2 years of experience in pharmaceutical industry; strong scientific background in analysis of recombinant proteins (mAb, bi/tri-specific mAbs, therapeutic proteins) by techniques such as mass photometry, chromatography, capillary electrophoresis, and light scattering technologies.

  • Excellent (hands-on) experience in sample preparation and analysis by mass photometry, dynamic light scattering, size exclusion chromatography and/or capillary electrophoresis.

  • Strong team spirit and a collaborative approach.

  • Good attention to detail, an analytical investigative and questioning nature, with an innovative solution-oriented approach

  • Excellent communication and presentation skills in oral and written English. 

Desirable requirements:

  • Additional knowledge in assessment of thermal stability of proteins by calorimetry and measurement of viscosity of formulated drug substance are a plus.

  • Mentoring and training skills to develop team members.

  • Ability to handle multiple tasks effectively, yet to prioritize and focus as needed.

  • Speaking German would be an asset.
