Summary

This role is part of the commercial Data and Analytics team at Novartis. The Director – Analytics & AI will understand complex and critical business problems from various stakeholders and business functions, formulate an integrated analytical approach to mine data sources, and employ statistical methods, machine learning algorithms, and AI to discover actionable insights and automate processes for reducing effort and time for repeated use.

About the Role

Major Accountabilities:

  • Deliver data science pipelines, models, and ensure the quality of AI outcomes, with a focus on AI call planning.
  • Develop and manage AI/ML-based Next Best Action (NBA) models.
  • Communicate and collaborate effectively with senior stakeholders across Novartis teams, driving strategic priorities at the enterprise level in a matrix environment.
  • Possess an in-depth understanding of the drug development life cycle and the commercial aspects of the pharmaceutical business.
  • Stay updated with existing and emerging AI/ML tools and technologies and have a proven track record of implementing them at an enterprise level.
  • Build statistical, econometric, and ML algorithms (e.g., random forest, GBM, clustering techniques), and have an advanced understanding of optimization techniques.
  • Translate business requirements into problem statements and drive hypothesis generation to identify the right data science problems to be solved.
  • Deliver enterprise-level scalable solutions and have proven capability in building and developing data science-driven software products, along with an understanding of software lifecycle management and agile product delivery.
  • Exhibit excellent written and verbal communication, business analysis, and consultancy skill.

Essential Requirements:

  • Master's or Ph.D. in Computer Science, Bioinformatics, Epidemiology, Statistics, Decision Science, Quantitative Research, Econometrics, or Computational Biology, along with a post-graduate degree in Business Management.
  • Robust understanding of the pharmaceutical domain and pharma product life cycle.
  • 12+ years of relevant experience in developing data science techniques and AI/ML product development, with an understanding of prevalent technology.

Desirable Requirements:

  • Experience in building statistical, econometric, and ML algorithms (e.g., random forest, GBM, clustering techniques).
  • Advanced understanding of optimization techniques.
  • Ability to translate business requirements into problem statements and drive hypothesis generation to identify the right data science problems to be solved.
  • Proven capability in building and developing data science-driven software products and understanding of software lifecycle management and agile product delivery.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication, business analysis, and consultancy skills.
