Location: Basel, Switzerland Full time, onsite, #LI-onsite We are seeking to hire a motivated candidate with a strong background in cellular and molecular immunology to join our Translational Immunology Unit in Basel within our Biomedical Research division. This is a unique opportunity to apply your deep knowledge of immunology to enable state-of-the-art cross-species immune system safety assessments for novel life-saving medicines during early and late phases of development. In collaboration with preclinical and clinical teams as well as external academic partners, you will lead innovative in vivo and in vitro experimental approaches to assess hazards and risks for drug-induced immunopathology and immune-mediated toxicity. Your contributions will enhance and accelerate the drug discovery and development portfolio of Novartis, bringing forward effective and safe medicines.

About the Role

Your responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Contribute and perform relevant experimental methods and scientific judgement to cross-species immune safety assessments introducing, developing, implementing, validating, and maintaining state-of-the-art technologies and laboratory procedures.

  • Perform target reviews and translational immune system safety assessments for early and late development projects.

  • Interface with internal clinical and preclinical teams and manage external academic collaborations.

  • Interface with regulatory agencies.

  • Present scientific/technical work and achievements at internal / external meetings.

  • Publish results in internal repositories, in peer reviewed journals and as patent applications, as appropriate.

Minimum requirements:

  • Education: MD/DVM and/or PhD with strong experience (3-5 years) in immunology and infection diseases biology.

  • Extensive experimental immunology with a strong research profile in both human and preclinical species.

  • Good understanding of drug-induced immune reactions.

  • Excellent communication skills and fluency in oral and written English.

  • Knowledge of the scientific disciplines involved in drug safety assessment, including relevant laboratory procedures related to safety risk management, as well as experience with large data analysis will be advantageous.

  • Proficiency with major state-of-the-art immunology technologies and approaches.

  • Proven expertise in scientific and technical problem-solving, ideally within an international, multi-disciplinary environment.

  • Proven experience supervising scientists, leading projects and working cross-teams.

Desirable requirements:

  • Excellent scientific publication record.

  • Good scientific network with academic institutions.         

  • Proven program and project management skills and conflict solving abilities in matrix environments.
