About the Role

About the Role

Our work includes identifying new, biologically active natural products from microorganisms and optimizing producer strains through genetic and physiological strategies, combined with process development in our mid-scale fermentation plant.

As an intern in our dynamic and multidisciplinary microbial engineering team, you will embark on a 6-month journey to evaluate and implement cutting-edge technologies and processes for strain cultivation and genetic engineering, aimed at enhancing compound production.

Duration: 3-6 month 

Location: Campus Basel


Your responsibilities:  

  • Perform standard and advanced cloning methods (Gibson assembly, recombination, CRISPR)
  • Transform various microbial hosts
  • Extract high-quality DNA for whole-genome sequencing
  • Optimize cultivation conditions
  • Evaluate data, generate reports, and contribute to the design and optimization of experiments

What you’ll bring to the role: 

  • Recent Bachelor or Master graduate in a biology-relevant field (graduation no longer than one year ago)
  • English, German/French is a plus
  • Demonstrated expertise in microbiology, molecular biology, and biochemistry
  • Experience and enthusiasm for developing and refining experimental methods
  • Strong team player with a collaborative and proactive approach
  • Experience in integrating wet lab data into databases to interpret results and plan future experiments (e.g. genome mining, cultivation optimization
